AICTE Initiatives Promote Women in STEM Courses

BuzzBytes New Delhi, December 11, 2023— The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has introduced the Pragati Scholarship and TechSaksham Program to encourage women’s participation in STEM courses. The Pragati Scholarship, initiated in 2014, awards scholarships to meritorious girl students entering technical education. Additionally, the TechSaksham Program focuses on developing employability skills among underserved female students pursuing higher education.

The efforts to improve female enrolment in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have led to a significant increase from 8% in 2018-19 to 20% in 2020-21. According to the All India Survey on Higher Education, female enrolment in STEM courses has risen from 38.4% in 2014-15 to 42.6% in 2021-22. These initiatives align with global trends, with India surpassing countries like the US, UK, Australia, and Germany in female STEM graduates.
