Alleged Job Fraud Leads Kashmiri Residents into Unintended Military Deployment

BuzzBytes Srinagar 27 February 2024:In a distressing turn of events, two Kashmiri individuals, Azad Yusuf Kumar and Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh, have reportedly fallen victim to a fraudulent recruitment scheme, finding themselves involuntarily deployed with the Russian army against Ukraine. The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has raised concerns over their well-being and has appealed to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar for urgent assistance.According to JKSA, Azad Yusuf Kumar, in his 30s, from Pulwama’s Awantipora, was lured by a YouTuber promising job opportunities in Dubai. Upon arriving in Russia, Azad and his companions were allegedly coerced into signing agreements written in Russian, eventually undergoing military training and deployment to the Ukraine border. Azad has suffered injuries and is currently stranded, prompting his family to fervently seek his safe return.Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Hajinar in the Tangdhar area of Kupwara, has also been reported missing in Russia. The JKSA emphasizes the urgent need for the external affairs ministry to address Zahoor’s sudden disappearance.The Ministry of External Affairs has recently urged Indian nationals to exercise caution and stay away from the Russia-Ukraine conflict, acknowledging that some have been signed up for “support jobs” in the Russian army. The JKSA’s plea for repatriation highlights the potential dangers faced by individuals who fall victim to deceptive recruitment practices.
