The training programme was inaugurated by Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti, who emphasized the need for a comprehensive strategy to combat the growing menace of drug abuse and narcotics trafficking.

Addressing the participants, the IGP said the fight against drugs requires a multi-pronged approach that combines effective law enforcement, professional investigation, successful prosecution, rehabilitation of victims and active community participation.

“Investigating Officers form the backbone of the criminal justice system. Their expertise and professionalism are crucial in dismantling drug trafficking networks and securing convictions against offenders,” he said.

A total of 120 Investigating Officers from the Jammu-Kathua-Samba (JKS) Range and Udhampur-Reasi (UR) Range are participating in the programme, which aims to enhance their investigative skills and strengthen institutional capacity to tackle narcotics-related crimes.

The training curriculum covers key aspects of narcotics enforcement, including the prevailing drug trafficking scenario in Jammu and Kashmir, legal provisions of the NDPS Act, investigation and prosecution of narcotics cases, forensic and fingerprint applications, technological advancements in policing, utilisation of the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS), and case studies tracing investigations from registration of FIRs to filing of final reports.

The sessions are being conducted by experts from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), senior police officers, forensic specialists and legal professionals.

Officials said the programme is designed to equip field investigators with modern investigative techniques, improve evidence collection and encourage effective use of technology to ensure stronger prosecution and deterrence against drug traffickers.

Launched on April 11, 2026, the 100-day Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan seeks to curb drug abuse through coordinated efforts focusing on enforcement, prevention, awareness generation, rehabilitation and community participation. The campaign also aims to identify drug hotspots and disrupt narcotics supply networks across the Union Territory.

The programme will conclude on June 18 with practical evaluation exercises, feedback sessions and distribution of certificates to participating officers.
