The arrival of a satellite colony in Jammu and Kashmir is a nod to progress, a promise of modernity amid rugged beauty. Yet, as concrete spreads, a quieter casualty emerges: the wetlands and farmland that sustain life here. In a region where land is a finite treasure, the government must tread carefully—welcoming development without sacrificing the earth beneath our feet.

Wetlands aren’t just scenery; they’re lifelines—regulating water, nurturing biodiversity, and buffering floods in a climate on edge. Agriculture, too, is more than tradition—it’s food security, a shield against dependency. Converting these into a concrete jungle isn’t growth; it’s shortsightedness. The state’s limited acres demand balance, not bulldozers. Satellite colonies can rise, but not at the cost of green lungs and fertile fields. Lawmakers must curb this rush, prioritizing smart planning over reckless sprawl. Progress that chokes nature isn’t progress—it’s a trap.
