Baramulla, January 1, 2024:In a commendable operation, the Baramulla Police has successfully dismantled a marriage scam, leading to the arrest of a fraudster preying on unsuspecting families. Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Hudpora Khaitangan, filed a formal complaint with Police Post Delina, shedding light on a planned marriage ceremony for his brother scheduled on December 31, 2023. The bride, intended to be from Thana Mandi Rajouri, was brought into the picture through a middleman, Sharif Ah Gaasi, residing in Kakapora Pulwama.

Amidst the arrangements, the families discovered they were strangers, with Sharif Ah Gaasi, the intermediary, evading communication. Responding promptly, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered under relevant legal provisions at Police Station Baramulla, launching a thorough investigation.

The diligent efforts of the Police Party at Police Post Delina, coupled with technical expertise, led to the tracking down of Sharif Ah Gaasi in Srinagar. Preliminary inquiries uncovered a fraudulent scheme, revealing that the accused had deceitfully extorted Rs. 1.18 lacs from the affected family under the guise of facilitating the marriage.

The implicated individual was promptly arrested and subsequently held in custody at Police Station Baramulla. Ongoing investigations seek to unveil the full extent of the scam and ensure justice for the duped family. The Baramulla Police continues its commitment to safeguarding the community against such deceptive practices.
