In a significant development, BJP MLA Ramdular Gond has been handed a 25-year prison sentence for the rape of a minor girl nine years ago. The Uttar Pradesh Assembly promptly disqualified Gond on Friday following the court’s verdict.

As per the Representation of the People Act, lawmakers sentenced to two years or more in prison face disqualification “from the date of such conviction.” This disqualification extends for an additional six years after completing the sentence.

Ahsan Ullah Khan, the additional district and session judge of the MP-MLA court in Sonbhadra, imposed a hefty fine of Rs 10 lakh on Gond. The funds will be allocated towards the rehabilitation of the survivor. This landmark decision underscores the importance of accountability and justice in cases of sexual assault. #JusticePrevails #BJPMLAConviction #AccountabilityInPolitics
