Srinagar, Aug 20 (BuzzBytes): Reacting sharply to the Congress Working Committee’s decision to sing only two stanzas of the national song “Vande Mataram”, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has described it as “appeasement” and vote bank politics. He alleged that the Congress decision not only reflects an anti-national attitude but is also an open violation of the law.

In a statement issued on X, the Home Minister said that in 1937 too the Congress had allegedly decided under appeasement politics to restrict “Vande Mataram” to two parts. According to him, the two-nation theory relating to the partition of the country gained strength in that same period, and the country eventually had to bear the grave consequences of partition.

Shah said that on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram”, the central government corrected that historical mistake and gave legal status to the complete form of the national song, but in his words the Congress under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi is once again treading the same path of appeasement for the sake of the vote bank.

The Union Home Minister said in his statement that the country has already borne the consequences of the mistake of dividing “Vande Mataram” once. He appealed to the people of the country to unite and raise their voice against what he alleged was the Congress’s appeasement politics.

The controversy has surfaced after the Congress Working Committee decided that only the first two stanzas of “Vande Mataram” will be sung at all party functions. The Congress has cited the decision taken in 1937 by the party’s highest decision-making body as the basis for this decision.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has also targeted the Congress sharply over the matter. BJP national president Nitin Nabin alleged that the Congress has become a “new Muslim League” for the sake of votes.

Amit Shah, linking the “Vande Mataram” issue to the history of the country’s partition, said that the political effects of any change in the original form of the national song cannot be ignored. He stressed that unity and national spirit should be given priority in the country in matters relating to the national song—(BuzzBytes)
