CSIR-IIIM Jammu Celebrates 83rd Foundation Day with Grandeur and Achievements

Shubham Kotwal Jammu, December 18, 2023 – The CSIR–Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM) in Jammu celebrated its 83rd Foundation Day with a daylong event filled with intellectual discourse, recognitions, and sports activities. Dr. Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director and CEO of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jammu, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, delivering a Foundation Day Lecture titled, “Leveraging Technology for Enhancing Medical Research in Healthcare.”

In his lecture, Dr. Shakti Gupta discussed futuristic technological innovations in medical sciences, ranging from IoT-enabled Smart Hospitals to 3D printed bones, emphasizing the role of AI and predictive medical technologies. Speaking to the media, he praised the high-end research conducted at CSIR-IIIM and highlighted the ongoing collaboration with AIIMS, Jammu, with plans for joint research projects in the near future.

CSIR-IIIM Director, Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, welcomed the Chief Guest, hailing him as a visionary medical professional and international institution builder. Dr. Ahmed shared insights into the scientific achievements of the institute over the past year and outlined future plans. The event showcased a diverse range of activities, including sports tournaments, an open day for students, and a cultural program in the evening.

Recognition for Patents and Achievements: The event felicitated scientists and students who patented various technologies and products. Notable mentions include eight patents filed in India and eleven filed abroad, covering areas such as medical sciences, fermentation, microbiology, and more. Students depositing the highest number of cultures to the Col. Sir RN Chopra Microbial repository and compounds to the Institutional compound repository were also acknowledged.

Sports Highlights: Winners of various sports events were recognized during the ceremony. Cricket tournaments saw the team from QMI and Colony, captained by Er. Anil Katare, emerge victorious. Badminton, volleyball, tug-of-war, and other sports also witnessed enthusiastic participation and spirited competition.

Cultural Program: The celebration concluded with a vibrant cultural program featuring performances by students of RRL High School, research scholars, and CSIR-IIIM staff members. The evening program added a colorful and artistic touch to the Foundation Day festivities.

Closing Remarks: Er. Abdul Rahim, Dr. Shashank Singh, Dr. Dhiraj Vyas, and other coordinators played pivotal roles in organizing the event under the patronage of Dr. Zabeer Ahmed. Dr. Gurleen Kour conducted the proceedings, and Er. Abdul Rahim delivered the formal vote of thanks, wrapping up the 83rd Foundation Day celebrations at CSIR-IIIM, Jammu.
