Srinagar,: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting at the Police Control Room in Srinagar to review security arrangements for the upcoming Eid al-Adha celebrations and the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 pilgrimage.
The meeting was attended by senior officers of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Reserve Police Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, traffic police, railways and other security agencies.
According to a police spokesperson, the meeting focused on ensuring smooth, peaceful and secure conduct of both major events, which witness large public gatherings and extensive movement across the Union Territory.
Emphasising the importance of peaceful Eid celebrations across the Valley, the DGP directed officers to ensure comprehensive crowd management arrangements at mosques, shrines and major congregation venues.
He instructed officials to strengthen security measures, regulate public movement efficiently and deploy adequate personnel at sensitive locations to prevent overcrowding and maintain law and order.
Prabhat also directed field officers to intensify surveillance, conduct random inspections in vulnerable areas and enhance patrolling to effectively address any potential security concerns during the festival period.
During the meeting, officers gave detailed presentations regarding proposed security and logistical arrangements for the smooth conduct of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026.
Officials from paramilitary and other security forces also shared their assessments and stressed the need for seamless coordination and operational synergy among all agencies involved in the pilgrimage arrangements.
Senior officers briefed the DGP about administrative and logistical preparations being made for the induction of additional Central Armed Police Force companies being deployed for the yatra.
The police chief directed district heads to ensure proper accommodation, transportation and efficient ground deployment of incoming CAPF units.
Highlighting the importance of robust security management during the pilgrimage, the DGP instructed officers to strictly implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and adopt proactive measures to counter any potential threat.
He stressed the need for heightened vigilance to ensure the safety and security of pilgrims throughout the yatra period.
Prabhat also directed field formations to intensify efforts aimed at dismantling the terror ecosystem and strengthening area domination along the pilgrimage routes.
The DGP further ordered the deployment of anti-sabotage teams and increased use of advanced surveillance systems and real-time monitoring mechanisms to improve threat detection and response capabilities.
Officials said security arrangements for both Eid-ul-Azha and the Amarnath Yatra are being reviewed at multiple levels to ensure peaceful conduct and smooth movement of devotees and the general public across Jammu and Kashmir.
