January 19: In a proactive move against social crimes, the Kulgam Police arrested 02 gamblers and seized stake money of Rs. 4500 from their possession. Acting on specific information about gambling activities near Palpora, a police party from Police Post Mirbazar, headed by the Incharge, conducted a raid, apprehending Shahid Ahmad Mir and Ashiq Hussain Sofi. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.In another incident, Kulgam Police arrested a drug peddler, Sayar Ahmad Mir, at a checkpoint in Margibal Gojjarpora. Mir attempted to flee but was tactfully apprehended. Upon search, officers recovered 2.5 kgs of Poppy Straw concealed in a nylon bag. The seized motorcycle (JK03D-8782) used in the commission of the crime was also confiscated. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station DH Pora, and the investigation has commenced.Kulgam Police reaffirms its commitment to eradicating social crimes and encourages the community to report any criminal activities in their vicinity to local police units or dial 112 for immediate assistance.
