Fake Computer Engineer, Extortionist Nabbed in Handwara by Local Police

Handwara, Feb 12 (KS):In a significant breakthrough, the Handwara Police in Kupwara district, north Kashmir, have successfully apprehended an individual masquerading as a fake computer engineer. The imposter was using social media platforms to target unsuspecting individuals.According to official sources as reported by News Agency Kashmir Scroll, the accused, identified as Atif Qureshi, had been deceiving people by falsely representing himself as a computer engineer. Exploiting the prevalent fear of data breaches, he initiated contact with victims through social media, alleging that their personal data was compromised. Posing as a helpful professional, he then offered to remove their data from the internet for a fee. Unfortunately, some victims, fearing exposure, fell prey to his extortion demands.A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the law, and he is currently in custody. Initial investigations indicate that the imposter systematically targeted numerous individuals, manipulating their fears to carry out his illicit activities. The local police’s swift action highlights their commitment to safeguarding residents from fraudulent activities and maintaining cyber-security in the region.
