Directions Issued for Prompt Turnover Incentives Release

CS Urges Early Clearance of GST Reimbursement Cases
Jammu, Nov 17: To alleviate the concerns of pensioners and employees, the Finance Department of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is set to release Rs 500 crore for the settlement of long-pending General Provident Fund (GPF) claims. These claims, which have been stagnant in treasuries for several months, are anticipated to be resolved in the upcoming days.
Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta recently chaired a meeting where the prolonged delay in GPF claim settlements was deliberated upon. As a result, the Finance Department, led by Principal Secretary Santosh D Vaidya, assured the Chief Secretary of the imminent release of Rs 500 crore for GPF settlements. Detailed arrangements are underway, and funds are expected to be disbursed across the Union Territory shortly.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a senior officer from the Accounts and Treasuries department acknowledged the backlog of GPF claims and indicated that the Finance Department has given assurances regarding the swift release of funds to clear these claims.
The delayed disbursement of GPF and retirement gratuity payments has significantly impacted pensioners, causing hardships in meeting essential financial obligations such as education expenses and family events. Pensioners stressed the government’s responsibility for the prolonged delay and demanded interest compensation for the period their claims remained unsettled.
Employees, both serving and retired, voiced frustration over the prolonged delays in GPF settlements, highlighting the financial strain caused by these delays.
Additionally, Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta directed the GST Department to expedite pending reimbursement cases and instructed the Industries and Commerce Department to promptly release outstanding turnover incentives for industrial units.
Existing industrial units have faced severe challenges due to delays in receiving turnover incentives for the financial year 2021-22, leading to numerous appeals from industrial bodies urging the Government for swift disbursement to mitigate further financial setbacks.”
