Jammu 12/02/2024: A delegation of former MLAs from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by former minister Dr. Devinder Kumar Manyal, recently met with the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. During the meeting, the delegation submitted a memorandum outlining the genuine concerns and demands of the Scheduled Caste (SC) community, People of Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK), West Pakistan refugees (WPRs), and Displaced Persons (DPs) in J&K. The delegation seeks the intervention of the Lieutenant Governor to address these concerns and provide relief to the affected communities.The memorandum covers various issues affecting these communities, including the discontinuation of reservation in promotion for SCs in government jobs, the need for a comprehensive transfer policy for Jammu-based SC employees posted in Kashmir, and recommendations for Lok Sabha seat reservation for SCs in Jammu and Kashmir UT. The document also addresses the enhancement of reservation quotas, land ownership rights for POJK refugees, DPs, and WPRs, and the provision of PM Kissan Samman Nidhi benefits to local and other land allottees.The delegation, consisting of former MLAs Dr. Krishan Lal, Prof. GR Bhagat, Neelam Langeh, Kuldeep Kumar, and DDC member Dharminder Kumar, expressed hope that the Lieutenant Governor would consider the memorandum’s contents and take appropriate actions to address the genuine concerns of the SCs, POJK, WPRs, and DP communities in the Union Territory.
