GANDERBAL, November 21: The spirit of ‘World Fisheries Day’ resonated vibrantly at Trout Fish Farm Mammar in Ganderbal, as the community celebrated the occasion in solidarity with local fishermen and fish farmers, recognizing their invaluable contribution to the global protein supply.
Presided over by ADDC Ganderbal, Mushtaq Ahmed Simnani, and attended by SDM Kangan Javid Ahmed Rather, along with scientists from SKUAST (K) and the Central University, the celebration drew a substantial gathering of students, farmers, and stakeholders.
Organized in collaboration with KVK and the Department of Fisheries, Ganderbal, the event spotlighted the crucial role played by the fishing community worldwide, accounting for 25% of the global human population’s protein intake.
ADDC Ganderbal commended the Fisheries Department’s endeavors, emphasizing the significance of World Fisheries Day and advocating for sustainable fisheries practices globally.
SDM Kangan lauded the concerted efforts of all stakeholders in managing and conserving fisheries resources in J&K, particularly in District Ganderbal.
Assistant Director Fisheries Ganderbal, Salman Rauoof Chalkoo, elucidated the importance of the day and shed light on the Department of Fisheries’ initiatives for farmer welfare and economic advancement.
In line with Yuva Vani under HADP, students received insights into adopting a holistic approach towards embracing fish farming and agricultural practices.
Highlighting Kashmiri culture, students from the Central University presented captivating cultural events showcasing traditional attire. Additionally, a magazine on Holistic Agricultural Development plan was showcased during the event, adding to the enriching celebrations of the day.
