New Delhi, October 2(Buzzbytes): Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid heartfelt tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Delhi’s Rajghat on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on Monday.

Reflecting on the global impact of Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy, PM Modi stated in a post on social media, “Mahatma Gandhi’s impact is global, motivating the entire humankind to further the spirit of unity and compassion. I bow to Mahatma Gandhi on the special occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. His timeless teachings continue to illuminate our path. May we always work towards fulfilling his dreams. May his thoughts enable every youngster to be the agent of change he dreamt of, fostering unity and harmony all over.”

Earlier today, Congress national president and Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, also paid tributes to Gandhi at Rajghat, emphasizing the enduring relevance of Gandhi’s principles.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Delhi Lieutenant Governor LG Saxena joined in paying their respects to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, underscoring the universal admiration for the Father of the Nation on Gandhi Jayanti.

Yesterday, on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, President Droupadi Murmu extended her greetings to citizens and appealed to people to follow his values and teachings in their thoughts, speech, and actions, dedicating themselves to the welfare of the country.

Mahatma Gandhi, born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar town of Gujarat, remains a symbol of non-violent resistance and the forefront leader of the freedom struggle against colonial British rule. His unwavering belief in ‘Swaraj’ (self-governance) and ‘Ahimsa’ (non-violence) earned him accolades across the world and played a pivotal role in India’s eventual independence in 1947. Fondly known as Bapu, his principles continue to inspire generations globally.

It is worth noting that Gandhi’s birth anniversary is celebrated worldwide as the International Day of Non-Violence.

In line with the spirit of Gandhi Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a nationwide cleanliness drive beginning on October 1. He emphasized that Swachh Bharat (Clean India) is a shared responsibility, and every effort counts.

The ‘Ek Tareekh, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’ Campaign is a massive cleanliness drive to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti. This initiative serves as a prelude to the ‘Swachhata Pakhwada- Swachhata Hi Seva’ 2023 campaign.

Encouraging citizens across the country to actively participate in the cleanliness campaign, PM Modi highlighted that advancing this initiative would be a significant step toward realizing Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of a clean India.(Buzzbytes)
