Kathua KVK records 156 mm, Jammu 79 mm, Katra 71 mm and Samba 55 mm in 24 hours; very heavy rain likely in one or two Jammu districts
Srinagar, Aug 11 (BuzzBytes): Heavy rainfall disrupted normal life in various parts of the Jammu region while Kashmir remained cloudy with humid conditions persisting. Rainfall was recorded across different areas of Jammu and Kashmir during the last 24 hours, and the Meteorological Department has forecast further rain and thundershowers at many places in the coming days, with the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in some districts of the Jammu division.
According to the Meteorological Department, considerable rainfall was recorded in Jammu during the last 24 hours. The KVK area of Kathua recorded the highest rainfall at 156 mm, while Jammu received 79 mm, Katra 71 mm and Samba 55 mm.
An official of the Meteorological Centre Srinagar said that on August 11 and 12, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at one or two occasions in most parts of Jammu and Kashmir. During this period, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in a few districts of the Jammu province, while brief spells of intense rain are likely in some parts of Kashmir.
The department said that between August 13 and 16, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at many places, with brief spells of heavy rain possible at a few locations. Similarly, from August 17 to 19, a few rounds of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at many places, with heavy rain and brief spells of very intense rain likely in some districts during early morning and afternoon hours. From August 20 to 22, light rain and thundershowers are forecast at one or two places.
The Meteorological Department has advised people to remain cautious on August 11 and 12 and again from August 17 to 19 in view of the possibility of heavy rain and brief spells of very intense rain in some districts. It warned that heavy downpours and short duration intense rainfall could trigger flash floods, mudslides and rockslides at weak and vulnerable locations.
In view of the situation, travellers, tourists and transporters have been advised to remain cautious and strictly follow the instructions issued by the district administration. People have been asked to avoid going near streams, rivers and other fast flowing water bodies during rainfall and to keep the weather situation and administrative advisories in mind while travelling in sensitive hilly areas—(BuzzBytes)
