Doda, Aug 11 (BuzzBytes): Security forces have launched a massive search and cordon operation on the Ram Tund peak in Doda district after a video showing the movement of four suspected militants surfaced, officials said. Officials said the video of the alleged movement of the suspects prompted authorities to further tighten security in the area.
Official sources said some local residents filmed four suspicious persons climbing towards the Ram Tund peak on Monday afternoon and immediately informed the security forces. After the video surfaced, the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the CRPF launched a joint operation in the area, searching the surrounding forests, hill slopes, ridges and possible routes of movement.
Sources said additional reinforcements were also dispatched to the area from Udhampur on Tuesday morning. According to initial reports, the suspected group may include three foreigners and one local militant, however, the forces have so far had no direct contact with the suspects.
The Ram Tund area lies close to the Seoj Dhar belt of Udhampur district and is considered sensitive from a security point of view because of its dense forests and difficult mountainous terrain. Officials said the area has remained under the watch of security agencies in the past due to apprehensions that it was being used for militant movement, temporary shelter and transit. Jammu, Aug 11 (BuzzBytes): The water level in the Ujh river at Kathua crossed the danger mark on Tuesday following heavy rains in the district, prompting authorities to remain on high alert. Per details available with , the Ujh river at Kathua recorded a discharge of 95,099 cusecs at noon, crossing the danger level of 95,099 cusecs, while the alert level is 52,341 cusecs, according to the latest update shared by Kashmir Weather.
The discharge in the river witnessed a nearly nine-fold increase within two hours, the weather agency said. The evacuation level at the location has been set at 1,44,701 cusecs.
Heavy rainfall has been reported across Kathua district since morning, with the intensity easing in the lower plains but continuing at high levels in the higher reaches, the update said. At 11 am, the Ujh river at Panjtirthi was flowing at 8 feet against an alert level of 16.5 feet, while the Tarnah River was at 3 feet against its alert level of 4.3 feet.
The weather update warned that water levels in some rivers could cross flood declaration and danger marks in the coming hours as rainfall is expected to continue for a few more hours. However, water levels at all monitored locations were below the alert mark at 11 am, before the Ujh at Kathua subsequently crossed its danger level.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation amid the possibility of rising water levels and flash flooding in vulnerable areas.
