Income Tax Department Engages University of Kashmir Students in Tax Awareness Programme “TAX TALKS”

In a collaborative effort between the Income Tax Department, Srinagar, and the University of Kashmir, an interactive programme titled “TAX TALKS” took place at the Ibn Khaldun Auditorium. Themed “Fighting against Black Money is a fight for Socio-economic justice,” the event aimed to amplify tax consciousness among youth, emphasizing the crucial role taxes play in national development.

Approximately 150 students from diverse academic disciplines attended the event, featuring notable speakers from academia and the Income Tax Department. Mr. Shakil Ahmad Ganie, IRS (Dy. Commissioner of Income Tax, Srinagar), and Mr. Shakil Maqbool, ICAS, Addl. Commissioner, State Taxes (J&K), were among the key speakers, joined by university dignitaries including Dr. Nisar Mir (University Registrar), Professor Imtiyaz ul Haq (HOD, Economics), and Professor Nazir Ahmad Nazir (Dean-School of Business).

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Nilofer Khan, expressed gratitude to the Income Tax Department for organizing the session, emphasizing the need for continued initiatives to promote tax awareness among students. Income Tax Officer, Karamvir, provided an overview of the department, setting the stage for the insightful discussions.

The event featured a compelling debate among student volunteers from various academic backgrounds, exploring the perils of Black Money and its impact on the nation’s socio-economic fabric. Mr. Shakil Ahmad Ganai emphasized the role of vigilant citizenship in curbing black money and outlined governmental measures and legislative frameworks.

Mr. Shakil Maqbool, from the Indian Civil Accounts Service, highlighted the importance of indirect taxation and behavioral aspects in raising tax consciousness. The program concluded with the distribution of certificates and prizes to participants, acknowledging their contributions to the insightful discussions.

Professor Imtiyaz ul Haq extended gratitude to the Income Tax Department for their valuable insights, recognizing the efforts of the organizing committee. This initiative aimed at deepening understanding of taxation’s significance, fostering responsible citizenship, and contributing to the nation’s progress. The event’s success was evident in the enthusiastic response from participants and attendees.
