INCOME TAX DEPARTMENT LEADS THE WAY: ORGANIZES “WALKATHON” TO IGNITE PATRIOTIC DUTY ON 75TH REPUBLIC DAY

Srinagar, January 26, 2024: In a groundbreaking initiative to mark the 75th Republic Day, the Income Tax Department, Srinagar, orchestrated a spirited “Walkathon” to instill a profound sense of duty and patriotism among citizens. This historic event, flagged by M.P Singh, Pr. Commissioner of Income Tax, J&K and Ladakh, not only symbolized a celebration of the Republic Day but also marked the first time a Central Government Department took the lead in organizing such a remarkable initiative in Srinagar.The purpose of the Walkathon was deeply rooted in fostering a collective responsibility among citizens. It aimed at upholding the Constitution’s ideals and institutions, fostering a commitment to obeying the laws of the country, protecting national unity and integrity, safeguarding public property, honest and prompt tax payment, and preserving cultural heritage sites. Additionally, the participants pledged their commitment to improving the natural environment, keeping their surroundings clean, and contributing to the overall betterment of society.Approximately 60 officers and staff, including dedicated female officials, participated in the Walkathon with unwavering enthusiasm. The route covered key landmarks, starting from the Income Tax Office in Rajbagh, Srinagar, and winding its way through the picturesque Jhelum River Front, Convent Road, Jawahar Nagar Chowk, Hotel Radisson Collection, concluding at the Aayakar Bhawan. Adorned with National Flags and banners, the participants raised patriotic slogans, creating a powerful visual representation of their collective commitment to national values.After the successful completion of the event, M.P. Singh addressed the media, expressing pride in witnessing the people of J&K rapidly embracing a sense of belonging and inclusiveness, thereby realizing the dream of peace and prosperity. He underscored the significance of the event in spreading awareness about cleanliness, tax compliance, and other crucial social issues. Singh affirmed the Income Tax Department’s unwavering commitment to organizing similar impactful events in the future.Dy. Commissioner of Income Tax, Srinagar, Shakil Ahmad Ganie, extended gratitude to the district administration and traffic & police authorities for their seamless coordination, ensuring a hassle-free execution of the Walkathon. Singh concluded by urging every citizen to actively contribute to maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings and embracing their civic duties, echoing the spirit of the Republic Day.
