First Secretary Petal Gahlot calls Islamabad “a regime of the army, by the army, for the army,” rejects Shehbaz Sharif’s Kashmir remarks, warns terrorism will carry consequences
United Nations, Sep 26 (BuzzBytes): India’s First Secretary to the UN, Petal Gahlot, delivered a sharp rebuke of Pakistan following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s UN General Assembly address, exercising India’s Right of Reply.
Gahlot characterised Pakistan as an army-controlled state, telling the Assembly “this is a regime of the army, by the army, and for the army.” She referenced Pakistan’s 27th Constitutional Amendment, which grants the military leadership immunity from prosecution.
Rejecting Islamabad’s claims over the region, she asserted: “The Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is an integral and inalienable part of the country.”
Invoking the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Gahlot noted Osama Bin Laden’s long connection to Pakistan’s military and intelligence establishment, and warned of consequences for continued cross-border terrorism, referencing Operation Sindoor, launched in May 2025 after the Pahalgam attack.
She also criticised Pakistan’s treatment of religious minorities and its use of blasphemy laws, and said Islamabad’s “duplicity will neither benefit it nor the world.”
