Srinagar, November 16: The Department of Philosophy at Amar Singh College, Cluster University, Srinagar, organized an insightful Inter-College seminar themed ‘The Human of The Future’ in honor of World Philosophy Day 2023.
The event commenced with a warm welcome by Prof. Tabasum Lone, Head of the Department of Philosophy. Prof. Tabasum underscored the significance of World Philosophy Day, emphasizing the theme ‘The Human of The Future’ and its relevance.
She highlighted the role of philosophy in nurturing a tolerant and respectful society by fostering critical thinking and reasoned discourse, defining the path for shaping the future of humanity.
The distinguished address was delivered by Prof. (Dr) Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Principal of Amar Singh College and Nodal Principal of Kashmir Division colleges. Prof. Ajaz emphasized that philosophy, both as a discipline and everyday practice, holds transformative potential for societies. He stressed that through the exploration of diverse intellectual currents globally, philosophy is pivotal in encouraging intercultural dialogues.
Prof. Ajaz reiterated the importance of cultivating thoughtful minds and promoting reasoned debates to foster a more accepting and respectful society.
Following the address, the seminar commenced, witnessing active participation from students representing seven colleges in the Kashmir Division. Engaging discussions centered on envisioning the future of humanity.
The session sparked thoughtful exchanges of ideas among participants and the audience. Faisal Javaid from Amar Singh College secured the 1st prize, with Asiya Bashir from Islamia College of Science & Commerce and Huzaifa Bashir from AAMD College Bemina securing the 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively.
Judges Fazal Ilahi from the Institute of Advanced Studies in Education and Prof. Abdul Wahid Bhat, Head of the Department of History at Amar Singh College, were honored during a felicitation and prize distribution ceremony.
The program concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Prof. Shahnawaz Muntazir, Head of the Department of English, expressing gratitude to all contributors for their participation and insightful contributions.
