JAMMU, November 21: Jambu Zoo Nagrota witnessed a momentous occasion as Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta graced the zoo’s premises today, marking the arrival of majestic big cats – Tiger, Tigress from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and Lion, Lioness from Gujarat, adding a significant dimension to its diverse wildlife population.
During an extensive tour of the facility, Dr. Mehta took a keen interest in the animals’ welfare and inquired about the care and facilities provided to them. He expressed optimism, stating, “I envision Jambu Zoo to soon be acclaimed among the nation’s premier zoos.”
Recognizing Jammu’s significant development and transformation, Dr. Mehta highlighted Jambu Zoo’s pivotal role as a key attraction in the region.
Assessing the situation, Dr. Mehta identified opportunities to increase visitor numbers, emphasizing the importance of raising awareness among school children and nature enthusiasts about the distinct features and behaviors of the zoo’s diverse inhabitants.
The Chief Secretary underscored the zoo’s potential to not only symbolize wildlife conservation but also captivate visitors with its unique offerings, aiming to become a cherished destination in the region.
Highlighting the zoo’s prime location and distinct features, Dr. Mehta emphasized the role of visitors from Jammu city and Katra in contributing to increased footfall at Jambu Zoo.
Accompanying Dr. Mehta during his visit were Principal Secretary Forest, Ecology and Environment Dheeraj Gupta, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Chief Wild Life Warden, Zoo Manager, and other pertinent departmental officers.
