Masroor Qayoom Srinagar 18 November:
In a significant stride towards promoting women’s participation in sports, the Jammu and Kashmir Judo Association is gearing up to host the third Khelo India North Zone Women’s Judo League and Ranking Tournament. The event, organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with the Judo Federation of India, is slated to take place at the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar.
Commencing on the 18th of January, the tournament will unfold over four days, culminating on the 21st of January. The spotlight of this sporting extravaganza will be on approximately 500 girls hailing from across North India, set to showcase their judo prowess in categories ranging from Sub Junior and Cadet to Junior and Senior.
The initiative aligns with the broader objectives of the Khelo India program, aimed at nurturing sporting talent at the grassroots level. The Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium will witness a convergence of emerging judo enthusiasts, fostering a competitive spirit and providing a platform for these athletes to display their skills.
Medalists of the tournament will not only gain recognition but will also be awarded cash prizes as a token of appreciation. A substantial cash prize of INR 10,000 awaits the gold medalists, INR 7,000 for silver, and INR 5,000 for the bronze medalists. This incentive aims to recognize and encourage the dedication and hard work put forth by these young judo practitioners.
The successful organization of this event owes much to the collaborative efforts of key individuals within the J&K Judo Association. Gowhar Khan, Joint Secretary of J&K Judo Association, Hamid Khan, Vice President of J&K Judo Association, and Kabra Altaf, a distinguished Judo player and the first female judo coach in Jammu and Kashmir, have played pivotal roles in ensuring the seamless execution of this prestigious tournament.
Their dedication to promoting judo in the region has been instrumental in bringing together participants from various parts of North India. The event not only aims to crown champions but also to inspire more young women to embrace judo as a sport and contribute to the growing culture of athleticism in the region.
As the stage is set for this remarkable sporting spectacle, all eyes are on the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium, where the third Khelo India North Zone Women’s Judo League and Ranking Tournament is poised to leave a lasting impact on the judo landscape in the region.
