The data, focusing on individuals aged 15 years and above, reveals a steady improvement over the years. Starting at 5.1% in 2018-2019, the rate rose temporarily to 6.7% in 2019-2020, only to decrease to 5.9% in 2020-21 and reach the current low of 5.2% in 2021-2022.

Collected through the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) by MoSPI, the national unemployment rate also reflects a declining trend, standing at an encouraging 4.1% in 2021-22.

Director Employment Jammu and Kashmir, Nisar Ahmad Wani, dismissed monthly reports from private agencies as “factually incorrect” and assured that government efforts are underway to further reduce the unemployment rate. With 14 government departments actively promoting self-help employment schemes and numerous job fairs attracting private sector companies, the future looks promising.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha affirmed the commitment to filling vacant government posts, with over 30,000 positions filled in the last three years. An additional 20,000 posts will be advertised in the next 3-4 months as part of a major recruitment drive, solidifying the government’s dedication to addressing employment needs in various sectors. The goal remains clear: a brighter, more employed future for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
