Langate Hosts Grand Anti-Drug Awareness Programme Under Nasha Mukt Kashmir Abhiyan

Handwara, April 22: A grand awareness programme under the banner of Nasha Mukt Kashmir Abhiyan was successfully organised at Langate today through the joint efforts of the District Administration Kupwara, Education Department, District Police, and Youth Civil Society Kashmir.

The mega event was graced by several senior district officials, including the District Development Commissioner Kupwara, SSP Handwara, ADC Handwara, ASP Handwara, Deputy Chief Education Officer Handwara, District Education Planning Officer Kupwara, and Tehsildar Langate. Principals of various Degree Colleges and Higher Secondary Schools, Zonal Education Officer Langate, Zonal Education Planning Officer Langate, representatives of civil society, Traders Federations of Langate and Handwara, Pharmacist Association Handwara, media fraternity led by President Aatif Qayoom, and respected Imams of local mosques were also present on the occasion.

The programme witnessed an overwhelming participation of more than 5,000 students from various schools and colleges of Zone Langate and adjoining areas, reflecting a strong collective resolve to build a drug-free society.

Speakers on the occasion highlighted the growing threat of substance abuse and stressed the need for a united response from society. They emphasised the importance of awareness, education, and active community participation in combating the menace of drugs. The role of youth as ambassadors of change was particularly underlined.

Several awareness activities, including pledge-taking ceremonies and motivational speeches, were held to sensitise participants about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to encourage them to contribute actively towards the mission of a Nasha Mukt Kashmir.

Adding colour to the event, tug-of-war competitions were also organised between students of Government Medical College Handwara and GDC Handwara, Traders Federations of Langate and Handwara, and teams of students from Langate and Qaziabad. Participants from Government Medical College Handwara, Traders Federation Langate, and students from Langate emerged as winners in their respective categories.

On the sidelines of the campaign, a painting competition was also conducted in which students from private and government schools participated enthusiastically. The creative paintings prepared by the students were highly appreciated by the officers and guests present.

The District Administration Kupwara reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying such initiatives across the district and urged all stakeholders to join hands in this noble cause to safeguard the future of the younger generation.
