Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday handed over appointment letters to 27 Next of Kins (NoKs) of victims of terrorism during a ceremony held at Lok Bhavan Srinagar.
Appointment letters were also distributed to 22 NoKs of deceased government employees under the Jammu and Kashmir Rehabilitation Assistance Scheme 2022 and SRO 43.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to justice, the Lieutenant Governor said pending cases related to victims of terrorism would be reopened to ensure accountability and justice for affected families.
Paying tribute to the civilian victims of terrorism, Sinha said that for decades families who lost their loved ones to terror attacks had waited for justice and support. He said the initiative launched last year in Baramulla has helped many such families regain confidence and hope.
“Our campaign to deliver justice to terror victims’ families has restored their tomorrow. Around 400 NoKs have received employment so far, and we will continue this effort until every deserving family receives justice,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
He emphasised that the initiative is not merely an administrative process but a commitment to justice and dignity for victims of terrorism.
“My aim has been to ensure that no terror-affected family slips into neglect or fades from official attention. These appointment letters represent true justice, and today’s event stands as a testament to that commitment,” he said.
Sinha said that under the leadership of Narendra Modi, several initiatives have been taken in the last five to six years to build a confident and progressive Jammu and Kashmir.
“In August 2020, we set the vision to develop a Jammu and Kashmir defined not by the pain of its past but by the strength of its aspirations, rooted in social justice, dignity and equal opportunity,” he added.
The Lieutenant Governor also directed the Principal Secretary Home to conduct a comprehensive review of cases involving encroachment on properties belonging to victims of terrorism.
“I have repeatedly assured that land or homes forcibly occupied from terror-affected families will be restored, and all pending cases will undergo fair and transparent investigation,” he said.
Highlighting the administration’s rehabilitation efforts, Sinha said special measures would also be taken for victims who lost eyesight or are living with severe disabilities due to terrorism. The administration, he added, is preparing a structured framework to provide housing and other essential support to such families.
Calling for unity among citizens, the Lieutenant Governor urged people to remain vigilant against divisive forces and support efforts to maintain peace and stability.
“Adhering to the Prime Minister’s policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism, the administration, police and security forces are working decisively to dismantle terror networks. We must stand united for the peace and progress of our nation,” he said.
Senior officials present on the occasion included Principal Secretary Home Chandraker Bharti, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor Mandeep K. Bhandari, Commissioner Secretary GAD M Raju, Inspector General of Police Kashmir V. K. Birdi, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo, SSP Srinagar G. V. Sundeep Chakravarthy, and Wajahat Farooq Bhat, along with representatives of social organisations and family members of terror victims.
