In a significant medical achievement, District Hospital (DH) Shopian witnessed a historic moment with the successful completion of the first-ever total hip replacement surgery in the district hospitals of South Kashmir. The milestone surgery, conducted free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), marks a major leap in advancing healthcare services in the region.
A team of skilled orthopedic doctors, including Dr. Alamgir Jhan, Dr. Ishad Ganei, Dr. Altaf, and Dr. Abdul Hai, collaborated to perform the intricate procedure. The anesthesia and critical care support were expertly provided by Dr. Atif Nabi Shah, Dr. Irfan, and Dr. Pragya. The paramedical team, comprising Javed, Aijaz, Shakir, and Faisal, played a crucial role in ensuring the smooth conduct of the surgery.
Typically costing around Rs 1.5 lakh in private setups, the surgery was made accessible to the patient under the AB-PMJAY initiative, reinforcing the commitment to providing quality healthcare to all, irrespective of financial constraints.
