MMU Urges Imams and Preachers to Avoid Sectarian and Disrespectful Sermons

Srinagar, Jan 10- The Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) of Jammu and Kashmir, under the leadership of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, issued a strong warning against any attempts to disrupt communal harmony in the region through sectarian rhetoric.In a statement, MMU emphasized the paramount importance of focusing on the core teachings and principles of Islam during sermons and public addresses. The organization called upon scholars, preachers, and imams from various schools of thought to refrain from criticizing others based on different beliefs. Instead, they were encouraged to concentrate on the universal tenets of Islam and address significant social and moral challenges facing Kashmiri society.The MMU firmly stated that any individuals persisting in promoting sectarianism would be publicly exposed and held accountable for their actions.Furthermore, the MMU extended an appeal to all mosque leaders, scholars, and the general public to organize ‘Namaz-e-Istisqa’ prayers on Friday. This special prayer aims to seek divine intervention for rain and relief from severe weather conditions. The ‘Namaz-e-Istisqa’ gathering is scheduled to take place at Jama Masjid Srinagar following the Juma prayers on Friday.The Majlis-e-Ulema comprises numerous prominent religious and educational associations, including Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar, Jamaat-e-Islami, Karvaan-e-Islami, Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith, and many others, collectively representing a broad spectrum of religious and social entities in the region.
