Jammu, 16 Oct: BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh has attacked the Omar Abdullah-led NC-Congress alliance for what he alleged was a year marked by deception and broken promises since taking office in Jammu & Kashmir. Chugh accused the National Conference leadership, including Omar and Farooq Abdullah, of misleading voters during the 2024 Assembly elections with lofty assurances that have not materialized.
Chugh highlighted that the promised
12 free LPG cylinders for poor families has remained unfulfilled, leaving women to bear the burden of high cooking gas prices. He also criticized the government for failing to provide 200 units of free power and relief from arrears, claiming that power cuts persist, bills remain high, and hoped-for waivers have not been delivered.
Turning to youth employment, Chugh alleged abandonment of the pledge to enact a Youth Employment Generation Act within three months and to create one lakh jobs. He said that young people feel betrayed, as no legislation or new job opportunities have emerged in the alliance’s first year.
He further criticized the implementation of free public transport for women, noting that beyond a few routes in Srinagar and Jammu, most women commuters continue to pay standard fares. On tourism and agriculture, Chugh said houseboat owners, hoteliers, apple growers, and saffron farmers have seen no support or incentives, despite assurances of industry status for tourism and increased backing for horticulture.
Chugh also pointed to the lack of action on promised reforms in education and health, including free education to university level, two new skill universities, and a medical trust for free healthcare. According to him, not a single new notification or institution has materialized in these sectors after one year.
On Kashmiri Pandit rehabilitation, Chugh said the NC government has produced no credible roadmap, land allocation, or new housing schemes, calling it a fresh betrayal of trust. He accused the government of engaging in blame games against the central government while failing to address the daily needs of the people, insisting that “Jammu and Kashmir needs governance, not gimmicks,” and warning that “the people of J&K will not forget this betrayal”.
