NCORD Meeting in Kulgam Addresses Urgent Measures Against Drug Menace

In a pivotal District Level meeting of the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) held in Kulgam, chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Viqar Ahmed Giri, significant steps were discussed to combat drug abuse and narcotics trade in the district.

In a proactive move against the rising drug abuse issue, the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) conducted a District Level meeting in Kulgam, led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Viqar Ahmed Giri. The focus of the meeting was on formulating comprehensive strategies to curb drug abuse and the narcotics trade within the district.

During the meeting, ADC Giri emphasized the need for coordinated efforts among different departments to effectively combat drug peddling. He urged officers to take stringent action against those involved in this dangerous trade, emphasizing the importance of breaking the supply chain.

The discussions delved into various issues related to penal action against drug peddlers, including the registration of FIRs, arrests, and other stringent measures. The attendees were briefed on the activities conducted throughout the year, ranging from penal actions to awareness campaigns and large-scale poppy destruction drives.

Providing an update, police authorities shared that, in the current month alone, seven drug peddlers were apprehended, seven FIRs were lodged, and significant quantities of Poppy Straw and Charas were seized.

ADC Viqar Ahmed Giri highlighted the severity of the drug abuse problem, stating that it not only affects individuals but also has profound consequences for families and communities. He stressed the need to address the issue comprehensively, including deterrence, treatment, and enforcement.

The meeting was attended by key officials, including SDM-Noorabad Bashir Ul Hassan, SP G.M Bhat, CEO Kulgam, and other district officers. ADC Giri concluded the meeting by underscoring the importance of enhanced coordination among line departments and enforcement agencies to deter and combat the dangerous trade of drug trafficking in the region.
