The Jammu and Kashmir cabinet headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has approved power infrastructure projects worth over ₹93 crore for Srinagar aimed at strengthening electricity transmission and reducing power disruptions in the summer capital.
According to an official spokesperson, the decisions were taken during the sixth meeting of the Council of Ministers.
The Cabinet approved the augmentation of the Zainakote Grid Sub Station from 450 MVA to 780 MVA at an estimated cost of ₹67.66 crore.
In another major decision, the government also sanctioned the upgradation of the 132 KV Pampore–Rawalpora and Rawalpora–Bemina transmission lines at a cost of ₹25.47 crore.
Officials said the projects are aimed at significantly strengthening the power infrastructure in Srinagar and adjoining areas by increasing transmission capacity, improving grid stability and ensuring a more reliable electricity supply for consumers.
The augmentation of the Zainakote Grid Sub Station and modernisation of the transmission network are expected to help meet the increasing electricity demand in the region, especially during peak load periods.
The projects are also expected to reduce power interruptions and improve the overall efficiency of the electricity distribution system across Srinagar and surrounding areas.
