Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Vice President, Omar Abdullah, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to advocate for the restoration of J&K’s curtailed democratic rights during a party workers convention in Tral. The convention, organized by In-Charge Constituency Tral, Dr. Ghulam Nabi Bhat, witnessed Abdullah addressing crucial issues and emphasizing the party’s dedication to a larger cause beyond personal ambitions.*

*In his address, Abdullah reiterated that his fight is solely for the people of J&K, not for any political position. He stressed the importance of restoring dignity, safeguarding the region’s unique identity, and reclaiming abridged democratic rights. With a six-year tenure as the chief minister, Abdullah highlighted the party’s commitment to democratic, constitutional, legal, and peaceful means of struggle, emphasizing that violence has never been the party’s approach.*

*Challenging the BJP’s development claims following the revocation of Article 370, Abdullah questioned the lack of visible progress, job opportunities, and promised investments in terms of new hospitals, colleges, and industries in Kashmir. Criticizing the ruling BJP government, he asserted that instead of fulfilling promises, it has led the people of J&K into a state of hopelessness. Specific issues such as the denial of rights to Gujjar brothers over forests and the overall deficit in basic utility services and administration were pointed out.*

*The convention, attended by prominent party leaders, including General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Party Treasurer Shammi Oberoi, and Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani Sogami, showcased the success of recent NC conventions. Abdullah suggested that the groundswell of support for the party has created unease among political opponents, including those who were once part of PAGD (People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration).*

*Abdullah’s resolute commitment to the values and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir was evident throughout the convention, marking a crucial stance in the ongoing political landscape of the region.*
