Jammu, July 12: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday declared that Jammu and Kashmir would no longer wait indefinitely for the restoration of statehood, asserting that the people’s patience and restraint should not be mistaken for weakness.
Addressing the National Conference workers in Jammu, Omar said the growing participation of people from the Jammu region reflected a united demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional status.
“Today, thousands of our mothers, sisters and young workers from different parts of Jammu have gathered here to raise their voice and send a clear message to the Centre that there will be no more waiting. Somewhere, it seems our patience is being taken as weakness and our silence is being misunderstood,” the Chief Minister said.
Omar maintained that the demand for statehood was no longer confined to any single political party but had evolved into a people’s movement cutting across regional and political lines. He reiterated that the National Conference would continue its campaign until the Centre fulfilled its commitment to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
