Srinagar, Jun 16 (BuzzBytes): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday chaired the 84th Board of Directors meeting of the Srinagar Development Authority (SDA), reviewing key urban development, housing and infrastructure projects aimed at shaping the future growth of Srinagar city.
The meeting assessed the implementation of decisions taken during the previous board meeting and reviewed progress on several major initiatives, including housing projects, commercial infrastructure, land management and institutional reforms within the Authority.
A key focus of the discussions was the proposed Satellite Township at Rakhi Gund Aksha in Bemina, along with other upcoming housing projects. The Chief Minister stressed the need for well-planned and aesthetically designed residential spaces equipped with essential civic and social infrastructure such as schools, parks, playgrounds, shopping facilities and community amenities.
Omar Abdullah emphasized that future housing developments must not only address growing urban needs but also ensure quality landscaping, modern amenities and an improved living environment for residents.
The board also reviewed progress on commercial asset development, public infrastructure projects and proposals related to the revision and implementation of the Srinagar Master Plan and zonal development plans.
Highlighting the importance of sustainable urban growth, the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure timely execution of projects while maintaining transparency, planning standards and public interest. He also called for large-scale housing initiatives to meet the city’s increasing demand for residential accommodation.
The meeting further stressed the need for planned development of the Batmaloo area, improved parking facilities across Srinagar and measures to make the Sangarmal Shopping Centre fully operational. Directions were also issued to develop vacant land parcels around Sangarmal through new infrastructure projects.
The board discussed strengthening the institutional capacity of SDA through recruitment reforms, employee welfare measures and enhanced planning mechanisms to improve service delivery and urban governance.
The meeting was attended by Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, senior administrative officers and officials of the Srinagar Development Authority.
