New Delhi, Apr 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday paid rich tributes to Mahatma Jyotirao Phule on his birth anniversary, describing him as a visionary social reformer who dedicated his life to the ideals of equality, justice, and education, while marking the commencement of the 200th birth anniversary celebrations of the great reformer.
Prime Minister Modi remarked that Mahatma Phule was a pioneer in championing the rights of women and the marginalised, ensuring that education became a powerful instrument of empowerment through his efforts. In a series of posts on X, PM Modi wrote: “On the birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, paying tributes to a visionary social reformer who dedicated his life to the ideals of equality, justice and education. He was also a pioneer in championing the rights of women and the marginalised. Through his efforts, education became a powerful instrument of empowerment. This year, we mark the start of his 200th birth anniversary celebrations. May his thoughts continue to guide everyone in the pursuit of societal progress.”
The Prime Minister also penned an article sharing how Mahatma Phule remains a guiding light for several people and how his emphasis on education, learning, and the welfare of all remains deeply relevant in today’s age. “As we begin the 200th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Phule, penned a few thoughts on how he is a guiding light for several people and how his emphasis on education, learning and welfare of all are relevant in today’s age,” he wrote.
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah also paid tributes to the great social reformer and educationist on his birth anniversary. In a post on X, Shah said that Jyotiba Phule regarded education as the most effective medium for social reform, pioneering women’s education and, by establishing the ‘Satyashodhak Samaj’, made a significant contribution towards equality and justice in society. Shah further prayed that Phule’s thoughts continue to inspire the nation in building an inclusive and equitable society.
