PM Modi Lauds Art of Living’s Role in Nation-Building, Calls for Spiritually Strong and Developed India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised the Art of Living Foundation for its contribution towards service, spirituality and social transformation, and called for collective efforts to build a developed India rooted in environmental responsibility, youth empowerment and inner well-being.
Addressing a gathering at the Art of Living International Centre in Bengaluru during celebrations marking 45 years of the organisation and events linked to its founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the Prime Minister said Bengaluru had emerged not only as a global technology hub but also as a centre strengthening India’s spiritual and cultural identity.
During the programme, Modi also inaugurated a new meditation hall at the sprawling campus and congratulated the organisation for creating what he described as a lasting centre of peace and healing for future generations.
Referring to India’s civilisational ethos, the Prime Minister said selfless service remains the force binding the country’s immense diversity.
“Spiritual movements in India have always emphasised service to humanity,” Modi said while appreciating the organisation’s welfare programmes, including tribal empowerment initiatives and mental health support for prison inmates.
He asserted that no government alone can achieve transformation unless society actively participates in nation-building and cited the success of the Swachh Bharat campaign as an example of public involvement driving change.
Highlighting India’s achievements in the digital era, Modi said the country has become a global leader in digital payments, startup innovation, infrastructure growth and space technology, with youth playing a central role in this transformation.
“India is not only partnering in scientific innovation, but leading in many areas,” he said.
The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of mental peace and spiritual well-being in modern life, saying technology may connect people globally but individuals must also remain connected with themselves.
He said a developed India would emerge through youth who are mentally peaceful, socially responsible and sensitive towards society, underlining the significance of yoga, meditation and mental wellness.
Calling for greater environmental consciousness, Modi urged volunteers of the organisation to intensify efforts in natural farming and ecological conservation.
“Chemical fertilisers have exhausted our fields and harmed Mother Earth. Protecting Mother Earth from chemicals is also Art of Living,” he said, advocating sustainable and natural approaches to agriculture and healing.
