The newly established Press Club of Kashmir held its first interactive session with media professionals on Friday at its recently acquired premises in Amira Kadal, Srinagar. The event, which aimed to foster dialogue and promote healthy journalism practices, was attended by journalists from various media organizations.

The session was chaired by M Saleem Pandit, the interim President of the Press Club of Kashmir. In his opening remarks, Pandit highlighted the challenges facing the journalistic community in Kashmir and stressed the need for unity and collaboration to overcome these hurdles. He assured the attendees of his commitment to improving the welfare of journalists and enhancing the facilities and resources available at the Press Club.

“We are dedicated to making the Press Club of Kashmir a center of journalistic excellence, where professionals can come together to share knowledge and resources,” Pandit stated. Zulfikar Majid, the General Secretary of the Press Club of Kashmir, addressed concerns about the formal establishment of the Club and the election of a representative leadership. He reassured the journalists that the process of setting up the Club is progressing, and that elections will be held as soon as all necessary steps are completed. Majid emphasized the importance of a democratically elected body to lead the Press Club, pledging transparency and fairness in the election process.

The session was also marked by support from prominent media figures, including Ayaz Hafiz, Editor-in-Chief of Rising Kashmir, who committed to nurturing young journalistic talent in the region. Hafiz underlined the significance of the Press Club as a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences, which he believes is essential for the development of a responsible media community in Kashmir.

The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of purpose among the journalists, who expressed their appreciation for the Press Club’s efforts to involve them in the decision-making process. The office bearers pledged to carry forward the suggestions made during the session and to work towards the collective betterment of the journalistic community in Kashmir.
