Senior Superintendent of Police Lakshay Vinod Sharma announced in a press conference that a Rohingya man has been identified as the key figure in a racket involved in the illegal trafficking of women into Bandipora.
Addressing the media, SSP Sharma stated that the Police Station Hajin received information on November 23, 2023, from reliable sources about the unlawful trafficking of Rohingya women. Describing the criminal nature of the act, SSP Sharma highlighted the dual offense of illegal infiltration of Rohingya women from Bangladeshi refugee camps into India and their subsequent sale as brides, constituting human trafficking.
“In response to this information, an FIR was lodged, leading to the arrest of five individuals,” stated the police officer. Among those arrested, a Rohingya man identified as Manzoor Alam, son of Mohammad Ilyas, was revealed to be the kingpin orchestrating the entire trafficking racket.
SSP Sharma confirmed that two Rohingya women, who had been forced into marriage, were rescued, and necessary legal actions have been initiated. He emphasized that ongoing investigations are in progress to unveil further details surrounding this illegal operation.
