New Delhi, January 24:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that the Rozgar Mela has evolved into an institution in recent years, connecting lakhs of young Indians with government employment and giving fresh momentum to the nation’s journey towards development.
Addressing the 18th Rozgar Mela via video conferencing, the Prime Minister said the beginning of 2026 has brought “new happiness into people’s lives” while also reminding citizens of their constitutional duties. “This period is associated with the grand festival of the Republic,” he said, recalling that the nation recently observed Parakram Diwas on the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and will mark National Voters’ Day on January 25, followed by Republic Day.
Highlighting the significance of the day, Prime Minister Modi said, “On this very day, the Constitution adopted ‘Jana Gana Mana’ as the National Anthem and ‘Vande Mataram’ as the National Song.” He noted that the occasion had become even more special as more than 61,000 young people were receiving appointment letters for government services. “These appointment letters are not just jobs, they are an invitation to nation building and a pledge to accelerate the creation of a developed India,” he said.
The Prime Minister said the newly appointed youth would play a vital role in strengthening national security, education, healthcare, financial services, energy security and public sector enterprises. Congratulating them, he said, “Your contribution will shape India’s future.”
Stressing that employment generation and skill development for youth has been a top priority of his government, Modi said the Rozgar Mela was launched to bring recruitments into mission mode. “Today, the Rozgar Mela is being organised at more than 40 locations across the country. Through this initiative, lakhs of young people have already received appointment letters,” he said.
Calling India one of the youngest nations in the world, the Prime Minister said the government is working continuously to create opportunities for youth both within the country and abroad. “India is entering into trade and mobility agreements with several countries, opening new global avenues for our young talent,” he said.
He said unprecedented investment in modern infrastructure has generated large-scale employment in construction and allied sectors, while the startup ecosystem has expanded rapidly. “Nearly two lakh startups are employing over 21 lakh youth. Digital India has created a new economy, and today India is a global hub for animation, digital media and the creator economy,” he said.
Referring to growing global confidence in India, Modi said the country is the only major economy to have doubled its GDP in the last decade. “More than 100 countries are investing in India. Compared to the decade before 2014, foreign direct investment has increased over two-and-a-half times, and more investment means more jobs,” he said.
The Prime Minister also highlighted India’s rise as a manufacturing power, citing growth in electronics, pharmaceuticals, defence and automobiles. “Since 2014, electronics manufacturing has grown six times, crossing ₹11 lakh crore, while exports have exceeded ₹4 lakh crore,” he said, adding that two-wheeler sales crossed two crore units in 2025, reflecting rising purchasing power.
Noting the increasing role of women in the workforce, Modi said more than 8,000 women received appointment letters at the event. “In the last 11 years, women’s participation in the workforce has nearly doubled,” he said, pointing to schemes like Mudra and Startup India that have boosted female entrepreneurship.
Urging the newly recruited employees to be agents of change, the Prime Minister said, “Remember the difficulties you once faced in government offices and ensure that citizens do not face the same problems.” He stressed honesty, continuous learning and adaptability, encouraging them to use platforms like iGOT Karmayogi. “Work with the spirit of ‘Nagrik Devo Bhava’,” he said.
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh was present among other dignitaries at the event.
Since its launch, over 11 lakh recruitment letters have been issued through Rozgar Melas across the country. The 18th edition was organised at 45 locations, with selected candidates joining various ministries and departments, including Home Affairs, Health, Financial Services and Higher Education.
