Jammu, January 24:
Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, on Saturday said Uttar Pradesh represents the very heartland of India’s civilisation, a region that has nurtured the country’s spiritual, cultural and philosophical consciousness for millennia and continues to guide humanity with timeless wisdom.
The Lieutenant Governor was addressing the Uttar Pradesh Foundation Day celebrations organised at Jammu Kashmir Lok Bhavan, where he extended warm greetings and best wishes to the people of Uttar Pradesh on behalf of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Paying rich tributes to the state’s legendary freedom fighters, thinkers, saints and revolutionaries, LG Sinha recalled their decisive contribution in shaping modern India. “The sacrifices, ideas and vision of Uttar Pradesh’s great sons and daughters laid the foundation of a strong, self-aware and resilient nation,” he said.
Reflecting on the deep civilisational roots of the region, the Lieutenant Governor said, “Literary figures and scholars have long identified ancient Uttar Pradesh as India’s heartland—the cradle of the Vedas, Upanishads, Ramayana, Mahabharata and the Puranas. To me, Uttar Pradesh is a wellspring that has continuously nourished the cultural consciousness of this country.”
He said the essence of Uttar Pradesh cannot be confined to words alone. “Words fall short in capturing the richness of Uttar Pradesh. It is a land that must be felt and lived to be fully appreciated,” LG Sinha observed.
Highlighting the sacred geography of the state, the Lieutenant Governor said Uttar Pradesh occupies a unique spiritual position in the world. “This is the land where the Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati meet—a sacred junction carrying the weight of thousands of years of history. It stands as a spiritual centre that offers eternal wisdom to humanity and as a place of devotion that has stirred global consciousness through its unmatched cultural and literary heritage,” he said.
Describing Uttar Pradesh as India’s binding force, LG Sinha said the state connects the nation across all directions. “Uttar Pradesh represents India’s vital core, binding the country from North to South and East to West,” he said.
He said the spiritual luminaries of the region, through profound contemplation, gifted humanity its most enduring teaching. “They taught us that the ultimate quest transcends all others—the quest to understand oneself. The most profound journey we can undertake is the inward journey. This wisdom provides essential guidance for navigating today’s rapidly changing and complex world,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
Turning to the present, LG Sinha noted that Uttar Pradesh has made remarkable progress in recent years. He said the state’s development trajectory has been exemplary and reflective of effective governance and collective effort. “Uttar Pradesh’s growth story inspires confidence. I wish for the state to continue to flourish, achieve greater economic milestones and contribute even more powerfully to India’s progress and prosperity,” he said.
The celebrations featured a cultural evening showcasing the rich traditions and heritage of Uttar Pradesh. The event was attended by Member of Parliament from Hathras, Shri Anoop Pradhan, senior government officials, students, and residents of Uttar Pradesh living in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The gathering reflected a shared celebration of India’s unity in diversity, with Uttar Pradesh’s cultural and spiritual legacy resonating strongly among the audience.
