JAMMU: Senior BJP leader and former deputy chief minister Kavinder Gupta on Monday welcomed the Apex Court’s verdict on Article 370 abrogation terming it to be landmark judgment that vindicated the stand taken by government led by PM Narendra Modi with regard to abolition of this contentious Article of constitution.

In a statement issued to media fraternity, BJP stalwart said that the decision of the Supreme Court upholding the order of abrogation of Article 370 and calling it constitutionally valid is testimony to the fact that Modi Government’s decision was well thought of and taken after considering every minute detail with regard to law of the land and its provisions. He said that the SC’s judgment on the issue has now fully authenticated the move that has taken away special status given to J&K on temporary basis. He said that the provisions in the aforesaid Article were temporary and were bound to go and the credit for doing this justifiable job goes to Modi Government as after this endorsement by the SC, the changes which J&K saw on August 5, 2019 shall be written in annals of the history with golden ink. Kavinder also maintained that BJP is fully geared up for Assembly poll in the UT and it is now the prerogative of Election Commission of India (ECI) to decide when this part of the country will go for polls to elect the Assembly. He said that the decision on Article 370 has vindicated the stand of BJP, which was after this move since it came into existence because party believes in ‘one flag, one Prime Minister and one constitution’.
