SRINAGAR, Dec 23: Security forces on Tuesday carried out extensive anti-sabotage and area security operations around vital installations in Srinagar city to strengthen preventive measures and counter potential threats ahead of forthcoming national events.
Police said the coordinated exercise, conducted jointly with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), focused on major installations and sensitive locations in North Zone Srinagar. “The purpose of the joint security exercise is to reinforce the overall security grid, enhance operational preparedness, and ensure the safety of critical infrastructure and the general public,” a police spokesman said.
As part of the drill, personnel undertook thorough checking and sanitisation of key areas while reviewing existing security deployments and access control mechanisms. The operations were concentrated in Maharaja Bazaar and Amira Kadal, close to Bakshi Stadium—the main venue for Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations in the Valley.
Officials said these anti-sabotage operations are routinely conducted ahead of major national functions to ensure smooth and secure conduct of ceremonial events, including flag-hoisting, parades, and cultural programmes.
Similar exercises were also reported from parts of Anantnag district, with enhanced coordination between different wings of the security apparatus. Since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, officials noted, public participation in national celebrations has significantly increased, with earlier boycott calls from separatist groups largely absent.
