Srinagar: The Faculty of Forestry, SKUAST-Kashmir, in collaboration with the Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), London, and the Voluntary Carbon Market Initiative (VCMi), on Friday organised a capacity-building workshop on “India’s Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS) for Cooperatives.”
The event was inaugurated by Prof. A.H. Mughal, Dean, Faculty of Forestry, in the presence of Dr. Mohan Reddy, Senior Project Coordinator, Climate Change Group, IIED London.
In his inaugural address, Prof. Mughal underlined the crucial role of cooperatives and farmer producer groups in agricultural carbon markets. He emphasised that integrating carbon market mechanisms into agriculture can strengthen the resilience of farming systems, promote sustainable livelihoods, and encourage environmental stewardship.
The proceedings were moderated by Dr. Peerzada Ishtiyak Ahmad, who also facilitated interactive deliberations among participants. The workshop witnessed participation from Heads of Divisions and scientists across different faculty units.
A technical session, led by Dr. Mohan Reddy, focused on strengthening capacities and exploring opportunities for cooperatives, FPOs, FPCs, and NGOs working in agriculture and allied sectors.
The programme concluded with closing remarks and a vote of thanks presented by Dr. N.A. Pala.
