Srinagar Braces Against Biting Cold as Temperature Drops to Minus 1.0°C

Srinagar, Nov 25: The chilly grip of winter tightens in Jammu and Kashmir as Srinagar experiences a freezing night, recording a temperature of minus 1.0°C, as reported by officials on Saturday.

Notably, the mercury had previously dipped to the season’s lowest at minus 1.8°C on November 22 in the summer capital of J&K.

A meteorological department official told that the temperature, though lower than yesterday’s 0.9°C, remains 0.1°C above the normal range for this time of the year in Srinagar.

In other regions, Qazigund noted a minimum temperature of minus 0.8°C, compared to minus 0.2°C on the previous night, with the temperature being 0.9°C below the normal range for the gateway town of Kashmir.

Pahalgam, the renowned resort in south Kashmir, experienced a low of minus 3.4°C, slightly lower than the previous night’s minus 3.3°C, and 1.0°C below the normal range.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of 1.5°C, surpassing the normal range by 0.6°C.

Moving to north Kashmir, Kupwara town registered a low of minus 0.5°C, which is 0.5°C below the normal temperature for the region.

Gulmarg, the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, saw a low of minus 1.0°C, marking a deviation of 2.1°C below the normal range.

Meanwhile, in the winter capital of J&K, Jammu, the minimum temperature was recorded at 9.3°C, reflecting a deviation of 2.2°C below the normal range.

Looking ahead, the meteorological forecast suggests partly to generally cloudy weather over the next 24 hours. From November 27-28, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy. Further, from November 29-30, there is a likelihood of generally cloudy conditions with the possibility of light rain/snow at isolated higher reaches.

As we approach December 1-5, the weather is projected to be partly to generally cloudy. Additionally, shallow to moderate fog is expected to persist until November 28 over many places in the Kashmir division. Residents are urged to prepare for the ongoing cold spell, with a watchful eye on the changing weather conditions.
