State Taxes Department Conducts Special Inspection Drives in Shopian

In adherence to the directives of Dr. Rashmi Singh (IAS), the Commissioner of State Taxes Department J&K, the flying squad for District Shopian, led by Mts. Sammer Naik JKAS, Deputy Commissioner Appeals-II, Kashmir, and accompanied by Mr. Sarfaraz Ahmad (JKAS), State Tax Officer Shopian, conducted unannounced surprise checks of various business establishments in Main Town Shopian today.

The inspection encompassed medical stores, chemical shops, copper shops, general stores, textile shops, and more. The squad, aiming to verify compliance with the GST Act and identify potential tax evasion, scrutinized invoices, QR codes, bank accounts, electricity bills, sale and purchase invoices, and return filings. Some unregistered businesses were identified, and they were promptly instructed to register.

To determine the threshold limit of business establishments, the squad obtained bank account statements from these businesses. The recorded information was provided to jurisdictional officers to initiate proceedings under Section 63 of the GST Act against erring dealers. This special inspection drive will persist and intensify in the coming days as part of ongoing efforts by the State Taxes Department.
