T20 Winter Cricket Championship Successfully Concludes in Kupwara: A Remarkable Step in Combating Drug Menace

KUPWARA, JANUARY 11:In a commendable effort to engage the youth in positive and constructive activities, the District Administration Kupwara, in collaboration with the Department of Youth Service and Sports, successfully organized the T20 Winter Cricket Championship. This initiative, aligned with the larger vision of the Viksit Bharat Sanklp Yatra, aimed at curbing the drug menace in the border district.The championship reached its culmination with a vibrant closing ceremony, following an intense final match between Ganapora and Kupwara Town at Galizoo Sports Stadium, where Kupwara Town emerged victorious in a thrilling contest.The final match saw an overwhelming turnout of youth, cricket enthusiasts, PRIs, and District Administration officers, creating a festive atmosphere at the picturesque Galizoo Sports Stadium.During the closing ceremony, DC Kupwara, Ms. Ayushi Sudan, commended the Department of Youth Service and Sports for the successful organization of the Winter Cricket Championship. She expressed gratitude to the participating teams for displaying a spirit of sportsmanship and enthusiasm throughout the tournament. DC also thanked PRIs, District Administration officers, spectators, and the public for their support and cooperation, making the event a resounding success in Kupwara district.Ms. Ayushi Sudan highlighted the serious issue of substance abuse prevalent across the country and emphasized that such vibrant sports platforms are crucial in countering this menace. She noted that youth actively participating in sports become true ambassadors in overcoming the challenge of drug abuse.Despite challenging weather conditions, the tournament witnessed healthy competition, and the sportsmanship displayed by the youth was commendable, according to DC Ayushi Sudan. She expressed hope that this spirit of sportsmanship will continue in future events.The DC extended her appreciation to the media fraternity in Kupwara for providing extensive coverage to the tournament, which served the dual purpose of promoting sports culture and addressing substance abuse.In the presence of Vice Chairman, District Development Council Kupwara, Haji Farooq Mir, and DDC Member Drugmulla, Adv.Amina, trophies and cash prizes of ₹50,000/- and ₹25,000/- were awarded to the winner and runner-up teams, respectively.The final match was attended by ADC Kupwara, GH.Nabi Bhat, DYSSO Kupwara, Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, and other officers of the District Administration.The Winter Cricket Championship, recognizing the pivotal role sports play in fostering discipline, teamwork, and physical well-being, aimed to channel the energy of the youth in a positive direction and create a sense of camaraderie, diverting their attention from the perils of substance abuse.With an overwhelming response of 158 teams from different panchayats across the district, the championship promoted inclusivity and collaboration among diverse groups. This successful initiative, aligned with the VBSY, encouraged families and residents to come together in support of young talents, fostering a sense of pride and belonging to the nation.Deputy Commissioner Kupwara’s innovative approach of integrating the championship with VBSY, featuring workshops, seminars, and informational materials to educate participants and spectators about the detrimental effects of drug abuse, contributed to the event’s tremendous success.
