BuzzBytes New Delhi, Nov 24: The government will assist citizens in filing FIRs against social media platforms for violating IT rules in case they are aggrieved by objectionable content such as deep fakes. Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, stated that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) will develop a platform on which users can notify about IT rule violations by social media platforms.

“MeitY will assist users to easily notify it about violations of IT rules and help them in filing FIRs,” the minister said. He spoke to the media after a meeting with social media platforms, declaring, “From today onwards, there is zero tolerance for violations of IT rules.”
The FIR will be registered against the intermediary, and if they disclose the details of where the content originated, then the FIR will be filed against the entity that posted the content, the minister explained. He added that social media platforms have been given seven days to align their terms of use with the IT rules.
