Three Army personnel were injured on Sunday during an ongoing encounter between security forces and militants in the Sonar area of Chatroo in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, officials said.
The gunfight erupted after security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants. As the troops tightened the cordon and moved towards suspected hideouts, they came under fire, triggering an exchange of gunfire.
During the encounter, three soldiers sustained injuries. Officials said the injured personnel were immediately airlifted to a higher medical facility for advanced treatment. Their condition was not immediately disclosed.
Security forces have further tightened the cordon in and around the encounter site, while intermittent firing between the two sides was continuing at the time of filing this report. Additional reinforcements have been rushed to the area to strengthen the operation and prevent any escape.
Officials said the operation was still underway and further details would be shared as the situation develops.
