Srinagar, Dec 02 The Sonawari Traders Federation President, alongside PRI’s of Sonawari Bandipora and local residents in Ganderbal, has issued a joint appeal, urging swift action from authorities to resume the vital soil excavation project at Sheikhzoo.

The initiative, initially undertaken to clear a dry patch obstructing the River Jehlum’s waterway, faces a temporary halt due to complaints. Authorities initiated the project to prevent potential floods in villages in Bandipora and Ganderbal.

Nazir Ahmad Rashi, President of the Sonawari Citizens Forum, joined locals and PRI representatives in urging authorities to expedite the project’s resumption. They emphasized the project’s significance for regional development and relieving pressure on the Jehlum Bunds.

Community leaders stressed that the project underwent all necessary legal procedures in both districts and highlighted its importance in ensuring a smooth waterway while averting potential flood threats.

The restoration of this initiative is crucial not just for developmental projects but also for safeguarding the well-being of communities dependent on the River Jehlum.
