US Ambassador Sergio Gor To Make First Visit To Kashmir Today

Meetings with LG Manoj Sinha and CM Omar Abdullah expected; envoy to travel to Ladakh on Thursday

Srinagar, Aug 18 (BuzzBytes ): The United States Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, is scheduled to arrive in Kashmir this afternoon on his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir since taking charge, with meetings expected with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on a range of issues. According to official sources, Gor arrives in Kashmir having presented his credentials to President Droupadi Murmu on January 14 this year before assuming charge as the 27th US Ambassador to India. He also holds the additional responsibility of US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia. Sources said the Ambassador is expected to land in Srinagar this afternoon, with his stay arranged at the Vivanta by Taj hotel. He will call on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, while a meeting with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on various matters is also expected. The visit comes at a time when India and the United States are expanding strategic cooperation across sectors including defence, trade, technology, critical minerals, counter-terrorism and counter-narcotics. Since assuming charge in New Delhi, Gor has held a series of high-level meetings with the Indian leadership, including with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Gor is counted among the close associates of US President Donald Trump. He previously served as an aide to the President and Director of Presidential Personnel at the White House, and had earlier co-founded a publishing house with Donald Trump Jr, besides holding long experience in American politics and legislative affairs. Special security arrangements are expected to be in place during the Ambassador’s movement in Srinagar. Further details of the visit’s programme and of his meetings with the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister are expected to emerge after the visit concludes.
